About the Program

The registered nurse baccalaureate program is designed for students with either an associate degree or diploma in nursing. The curriculum is concentrated in the upper division and leads to a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in nursing. The upper-division nursing major draws on the lower-division prerequisite courses from the humanities, and the natural and social sciences. Students are provided learning experiences focused on the world's evolving health care environment through communication, negotiation, and leadership. Students are provided learning experiences focused on individuals, families, groups and communities. In addition students are exposed to various models of professional nursing and health care.

How Does it Work
  • Attend Pre Admission Advisement.
  • Transfer 57 non-nursing credits to Stony Brook from AAS degree program.
  • Receive 28 Advanced Placement Credits upon evaluation of required Clinical Practice Portfolio (at least 1 year experience).
  • Complete 43 credits in our Curriculum.
  • Attend Graduation for a Stony Brook Bachelor of Science Degree.

BONUS
  • BS/MS Option.
  • Complete BS/MS application at the midway point in the BS program.
  • If BS/MS application is approved we will replace the undergraduate electives with graduate core classes at the undergraduate tuition rate.
  • Upon graduation with your BS degree you are already admitted to a MS specialty and have 6 credits toward your MS degree.
  • You are permitted to continue on for your MS degree or you may delay your studies for up to one year.

Advanced Placement Credits

RN Baccalaureate students are required to submit a clinical practice portfolio to be evaluated for 28 advanced placement credits. If the portfolio does not meet academic standards, the student will not be able to continue in the program. The Clinical Practice Portfolio must be submitted by the end of your first year of study. The cost is $350.00.
